Lessons on Self-Love & Entitlement from The Neighborhood

Recently, I had the immense pleasure of leading a couple Inner Child healing groups. In two separate weeks, we established an inner Nurturing Mother and Supportive Father - archetypal forces that represent the healthiest expression of parents to support their inner Little One. These helpers included all the most supportive elements of their actual parents, in addition to other qualities they identified their Inner Child needed.

In the midst of that process, I was delighted to learn that Wont You Be My Neighbor, a documentary about Fred Rogers, would be coming out right around the completion of our group.

Lessons in Personal Power and Purpose

Last week I had the pleasure to visit the animal sanctuary Lions, Tigers & Bears, in Alpine. As a shamanic practitioner, and deeply feeling individual, I was moved by the stories of the animals who have reached this highly accredited facility, often after suffering unimaginably cruel conditions at the hands of people trading in exotic pets.

I got the rare and breathtaking honor of being just a couple of feet from some of the most powerful and awe-inspiring land predators; and, even got an opportunity to feed one (through a fence and via a long pole of course!).

Loving More in the Midst of Madness

It's a challenging time for a lot of folks, personally and collectively. Between the relentless natural disasters across the globe and the unimaginable man-made tragedies, it's been one thing after another.

Most of you, like myself, are highly intuitive and deeply feeling individuals. Which means that lately, you probably feel like you've been run over by good ol' fashioned steam engine. Or perhaps like you could start crying and not stop for days. Or, if you let yourself scream, you might lose your voice before you feel complete.

Choose from Countless New Beginnings!

Recently the comedy site Cracked.com reminded me of how much I used to love Choose Your Own Adventure books as a kid. Remember those? The books where you got to be the hero of the story, and actually choose which path you took along the journey. Sure, a good chunk of those choices led you to some strange and untimely deaths. May that be a lesson to you kids! Your choices have real life consequences...

The One That Knows: Invoking the Higher Self in Healing

It’s probably 90 degrees outside as my client Kelly and I sit in her driveway, tapping. Generally speaking, she likes and responds well to Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), a method of releasing stuck energy through tapping on points of the body associated to meridian lines in the body. Kelly has been living in Hell on Earth, with a combination of chronic illnesses for which western doctors and holistic practitioners alike have offered little relief. Today, as we often do, we’re tapping on a variety of her unbearable symptoms, perhaps the most crippling of which is her complete hopelessness.

An Offering Of Suffering For Those Who Suffer

I love ritual and ceremony. Not because it’s grand and elaborate, although in the right moments, that has it’s own power. Ritual can be as simple as lighting a candle and sending a prayer out into the Universe. Someone once told me that ritual is 99% intention. I cant remember who they were, but I think they were both brilliant and also a little wrong. Ritual might just be 99.9% intention.

Healing Through Time with Past Life Regression Therapy

Recently, one of my clients asked me, “Do you really believe that stuff's for real? That we’ve had other lives and come back?”

To both the logical and intuitive parts of my being, reincarnation and the existence of lives beyond this one just feels right, and makes sense. And in the appropriate space/time (say, not in the middle of a session), I’m excited to philosophize and dream about what might be possible in an infinite universe (infinite being the operative word here). However, my job as a hypnotherapist isnt to convince anyone of anything with respect to the existence of past lives.

Sandplay: when a toy is more than a toy....

When I was a kid, I didnt really play with toys.

My nose was unwaveringly stuck between the pages of a book.

I was most often devouring a fantastical adventure with heroes battling evil forces, quests for powerful objects, and dragons. Definitely anything at all with dragons. Concerned that I was growing up with my head in the clouds, my parents even restricted me, for a time, from reading fantasy; and, put me on a literary diet of non-fiction and the newspaper. Which didnt do a whole lot because...

The Body of the Goddess, Revealed....

Sometimes the Universe/Spirit/God (insert what jives for you here) asks us to do things that are pretty inconvenient. Of course, we don’t have to do it. Free will is a beautiful thing, and it allows us just as much latitude to do wild and amazing things as it does to do absolutely nothing.

Now, I’ve learned to recognize the sensation of following a trail of magical synchronistic breadcrumbs to somewhere awesome. It was totally inconvenient that these cosmic breadcrumbs led to a school in Northern California for my hypnotherapy and shamanic training. But it could have been a lot more inconvenient, so I sucked it up and thanked Spirit for showing me the way forward.

Unmasking the Past

I still remember my first exposure to hypnosis. It was a hot summer day in San Diego, and my best friend and I were reveling in the glory and pregnant possibility of the transition between middle school and high school. Somehow we gotten our hands on a book of hypnosis scripts.  Being the slightly off-beat teenagers that we were, we secreted ourselves away in her warm upstairs bedroom to see if we could regress one another into past lives and see what other lifetimes we had spent together.
